EERI recently submitted a bid to the International Association for Earthquake Engineering (IAEE) to host the 19th World Conference on Earthquake Engineering (WCEE) in Los Angeles, California from July 10-14, 2028. We hope to bring the world conference back to the United States for the first time in a generation. EERI hosted the inaugural world conference in Berkeley in 1956, as well as the 8th World Conference in San Francisco in 1984. EERI has identified an excellent venue, developed an exciting "Resilient Community" theme for the conference, and convened critical partners in Southern California and beyond. View the bid document here (PDF) for more information.
EERI presented the bid to IAEE members at the 18th World Conference in Milan, Italy, from June 30-July 5. EERI's bid to host the next world conference in Los Angeles did not succeed, but we congratulate the Canadian Association for Earthquake Engineering and Seismology on their winning bid for Montreal and look forward to planning a robust EERI contribution to WCEE 2028.
