Earthquake Spectra, the professional peer-reviewed journal of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI), serves as the publication of record for the development of earthquake engineering practice, earthquake codes and regulations, earthquake public policy, and earthquake investigation reports.
Its purpose is to serve the informational needs of the diverse researchers and professionals engaged in earthquake risk reduction: civil, geotechnical, mechanical, and structural engineers; geologists, seismologists, and other earth scientists; architects and city planners; public officials; and social scientists. In coordination with EERI's Learning From Earthquakes program, the journal commissions special collections of research papers following significant earthquake events.
The journal is published quarterly in online editions in February, May, August, and November, with additional special edition collections.
Earthquake Spectra is wholly owned and managed by EERI, and published by Wiley. Income from EERI’s publishing program is used to support EERI’s mission and work to achieve earthquake resilience in communities worldwide.

Partnership with Wiley
We are pleased to announce a new partnership with Wiley beginning in January 2026. Wiley will publish the first issue of Earthquake Spectra in February 2026 (Issue 1, Volume 42). Earthquake Spectra remains wholly owned and managed by EERI, but we rely on our publishing partner to support publication logistics, website hosting for the journal volumes, and distribution of the journal on behalf of EERI. Similar to our last agreement with Sage from 2020-2025, our new publishing partnership with Wiley allows income from EERI’s publishing program to support EERI’s mission and work to achieve earthquake resilience in communities worldwide. More information about the publisher transition can be found at our FAQ and our announcement news post.
